How do I know when it's time for a checkup? A healthy adult person typically benefits from a professional cleaning and check up every six months. While twice daily brushing and daily flossing go a long way towards maintaining a healthy mouth, it is wise to check for plaque that has hardened into tartar, requiring professional cleaning to avoid gingivitis. I really don't like visiting the dentist. Is there anything you can do to help me relax? We understand many people feel uneasy about having their teeth worked on. Our goal is to create a relaxing atmosphere to help relieve your anxiety. For entertainment and distraction, we have special headphones, television and music available in all treatment rooms. And for the more complex procedures, we also offer laughing gas and local anesthesia to keep you comfortable and relaxed.
At what age should I start bringing my child to see the dentist? We recommend around the age of 3 - 3 1/2 years old. If they have an older sibling, it's good to have them attend an appointment with their sibling to become comfortable with the surroundings. We'll even give them a ride in the chair!
Should I have my black mercury fillings replaced? Replacing your mercury fillings is always a good idea. Bonded resin fillings are far superior to the once used mercury fillings. They are actually bonded to the tooth and allow for a very minimal chance of recurrent decay. Because amalgams (mercury fillings) are not a bonded restoration, teeth almost always develop new decay. The technology of bonding resins has replaced the way that amalgams were packed into the tooth. The old process creates a lot of pressure on the tooth which could cause fractures, which lead to crowns and in some cases, root canals. Our bonded restorations actually preserve the tooth structure and become part of the tooth. (With Dr. Kemp's artistic skill, it is very likely that the restoration will be undetected by the naked eye.) We believe in early prevention and feel it is in our patients' best interest to have only bonded restorations.
Should I Consider Cosmetic Dentistry? When you look carefully at your smile, do you feel it could be better? If you answered yes, you should consider Cosmetic Dentistry. When your smile looks its best it will give you confidence in your everyday activities while improving your professional and personal image.
Can I afford Cosmetic Dentistry? There are many options when it comes to Cosmetic Dentistry. Some patients require treatments that are relatively easy and inexpensive. Others need more extensive restorations to have the smile they desire. To help you understand the procedure and the financial obligations, Dr. Kemp will review your treatment plan with you in detail and answers any questions you have before treatment begins. As questions arise, Dr. Kemp is happy to discuss treatment or any accompanying aspect of treatment at any point during the process. If it is needed, financing is also available.
How do I choose the right Cosmetic Dentist? When it comes to your smile you deserve the best care possible, we've included these tips for you to consider when selecting your Cosmetic Dentist:

Understand your Options
The goal is to find your perfect smile. Take time to explore the various techniques and procedures that are available to you so you can make the most educated choice. By exploring your options, you will be the most satisfied with the treatment you choose.

Cosmetic Training beyond Formal Dental School
A professional Cosmetic Dentist has received valuable post-graduate training to ensure you the highest quality treatment. A Cosmetic Dentist needs to stay on top of the latest technological advancements and improvements in the field to be able to perform these procedures. Ask your dentist the extent of his cosmetic training so you can have the best possible care.

Professional Dental Credentials
Like many professional fields, dentistry provides opportunities for higher education and advanced learning. In 1984, the AACD (American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry) was formed to give dentists a means to earn professional credentials through countless case studies, strenuous testing and hours of continuing education. Be sure to check what level of higher education your dentist has completed to earn professional credentials.

Integrity
It is the job of a dentist to access and evaluate your oral health. A quality dentist will communicate a thorough plan for treatment and a timeline ensuring your best health from your first appointment to a complete recovery time.

Trusting your Dentist
Be assured your Cosmetic Dentist wants the best possible treatment and care for you. A caring dentist is one who listens and understands your questions and concerns. Your dentist’s communication and care should instill confidence in their work.

Find the Perfectionist
He is working on your smile! This is the time you want a perfectionist. Your Cosmetic Dentist should have meticulous attention to detail and only accept perfect results.

Aesthetics
Combining the skills of your Cosmetic Dentist with an artist’s eye will create your perfect smile. Be sure the laboratory your dentist uses also produces beautiful quality restorations.

Experience
Ask your Cosmetic Dentist how much experience they have creating perfect smiles for their clients. Quality work comes from a well-trained and experienced Cosmetic Dentist.

Before and After Pictures
A picture can say 1,000 words! Ask your Cosmetic Dentist to see before and after photos of their actual work. You can judge their work firsthand.
